Kids Digital Cameras

Welcome to the Kids Digital Cameras review section on Digital Camera Ratings.

Your children can become photographers at a young age with kids digital cameras. You’ll want to look for something that is easy to use, durable, and a good value. Three popular models of kids digital cameras are Vtech, which offers the Kidizoom Digital Camera, Fisher Price with its Kid Tough digital camera, and Digital Concepts which has come out with 27290 VGA Digital Camera with Preview Screen for Kids. These cameras are suitable for children ranging in age from preschool to elementary school. They are meant to be a child’s first camera.

Vtech Kidizoom Digital Camera

The Vtech Kidizoom is for ages three and older. It’s 1.3 megapixels and has a large 1.8” color screen. In addition to photos it can also be used to make videos. It can store 5 minutes of video or over 200 photos at a time with the 16 MB internal memory. If more is needed, you can get extra SD cards.

Pros:
fun to use
Durable
Comes with 3 preschool games and a cool photo editing feature
Comes in multiple colors (blue, pink, orange, and camouflage)

Cons:
If the batteries die you’ll lose the pictures, so save them on an SD card or your computer.
A lot of navigation buttons may overwhelm some children.
Flash is useless, so take photos outside or in a brightly lit room.

Overview:
A great starter camera for three year olds, but photo quality is poor.
Ratings: 4 stars out of 5

Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera

The other option for a starter kids digital camera is the Fisher-Price Kid-Tough. It’s price is similar to its Vtech competition and has some of the strengths and weaknesses. It’s a durable camera and can handle being dropped and banged up. It’s photo quality isn’t that great and it lacks the video of the Kidizoom.

Pros:
Durable
Easy to Use
Comes in multiple colors (blue and pink)

Cons:
Eats Batteries
May be too large for small hands to hold comfortably
Picture quality is poor.

Overview:
Not the best on the market, but will provide kids with hours of fun.
Ratings: 3 stars out of 5

Digital Concepts 27290 VGA Digital Camera with Preview Screen for Kids

The Digital Concepts 27290 VGA Digital Camera with preview screen for kids is the lowest rated of all the kids digital cameras. It retails for over $40 but can typically be found for under $20 online. It has VGA resolution and includes a preview screen that makes it easier for children to take pictures. It comes with SnapShots Activity Software and can take up to 152 photos.

Pros:

It actually looks nice with fun colors that will be attractive to kids slightly older than preschool age.

Cons:

No flash.

Fragile.

Difficult to hook up to a computer.

Poor picture quality.

Overview:

At this price range you shouldn’t expect quality. If you consider it a toy rather than an electronic, you won’t be too disappointed. Still, it would be better to buy a kids digital camera that your child will be able to get more use of.
